Four in a Row at Quadrant Lodge

It is pleasing to record that Quadrant Lodge No 8044 are going through a "purple patch" of initiation ceremonies. Since the installation meeting in April 2015, the Worshipful Master, Simon Walker, and the members of the lodge have welcomed four initiates, namely Paul Gloster, Marcus Naylor, John Tannian and Richard Hughes.

The first three candidates were initiated during consecutive meetings. These initiations were conducted by Simon Walker, with his regular team of officers, who are now known as "The A Team". All of these ceremonies were carried out to a very high standard. It now remained to be seen if a team of past masters could initiate Richard Hughes to the same exacting standards.

This being Quadrant Lodge suggested that they could and all who attended the meeting were not disappointed.

The Worshipful Master invited the acclaimed Liam Bird, the candidate's proposer, to occupy the Chair. Liam appointed the following past masters to take post - Ken Cotton as Senior Warden, John Hayfield as Junior Warden, Abdul Benashour as Senior Deacon, John Chapman as Junior Deacon and Brian Newman as Inner Guard.

Having been challenged by Brian Newman, Richard was admitted and ably conducted through the ceremony by John Chapman, assisted by Abdul Benashour. Liam performed an excellent and very ‘moving’ ceremony of initiation, which was carried out to perfection. The working tools of the degree were presented by Liam and the charge after initiation was expertly delivered by John Hayfield This could not have failed to impress the candidate.

After the ceremony Group Chairman Ian Ward congratulated Richard on his initiation and welcomed him into freemasonry. He also presented Richard with his welcome pack and pointed out some of its important contents. Later, in his closing response on behalf of the grand officers, Ian congratulated the past masters and added that the lodge was very fortunate to have such talent in abundance. He concluded by christening the past masters, "The A Plus Team".

Following the lodge meeting, some sixty brethren sat down to a sumptuous meal prepared by the chef, Lee Munro. Liam Bird proposed the toast to his candidate in his own unique manner – detail infused with humour! In his response Richard thanked his proposers for their confidence in him and the lodge members for their warm welcome and the officers for the obvious amount of hard work they had put into the quality of the ceremony.

The evening was brought to its natural conclusion by Nick Hudson, who delivered the Tyler’s toast.
